Tea Cups
These teacups began as a simple ball of clay. With the thumb inside, the cup is pinched into a basic cup form. When about three-quarters finished, the cup is pressed onto a textured surface. This is the exciting part! Whatever happens when the texture is impressed determines the unique qualities of that particular cup. It takes about another hour of pinching and smoothing to thin and refine the form.
An enjoyable tactile sensation is the intention behind the choice of not adding handles. Smaller and more intimate, feeling great in your hand, the teacups function the best with tea brewed in a teapot. However, these cups can be used for a variety of hot and cold drinks.
